Foenkinos the favorite dictionary A diabolical

I'm reading "the erotic potential of my wife" by David Foenkinos. This book is a gem of humor and finesse. The universe is very Foenkinos particular, it crosses the second-class cycling champions who have won a race Ouarzazate and Casablanca, characters that create a travel agency for mythomaniacs, collectors collecting collections .... This completely unlikely but perfectly pleasant. I can not resist the pleasure to give you a few sentences. "Hector felt clear as a limousine at the exit of an airport" or "It was a happiness that everywhere arose as an army Napoleonic Prussia "and finally:" It was a week he was officially cuckold. We had the right to celebrate this claim to fame. "It is of great humor and a beautiful delicacy (as one of his other novels). Well, on that note, I leave you, we leave for fortnight is, yes, very east. Back on March 6.

Ambrose Bierce, you know? I had never heard about a month ago. C is the author of "Devil's Dictionary" (published Shores). Like any dictionary, you can enter anytime and be content with a definition. This book is a masterpiece black humor and cynicism. A delight. Few examples. "Man: animal so distraught in the beautiful sight of what he thinks he is, he ignores what he should certainly be. His concern is evident in the extermination of other animals and his own species. " But it is in the field Bierce sentimental book full (un) able. "Bride: young person who has a fine prospect of happiness behind her." Or: "Marriage: the state or condition of a community with a master, a mistress and two slaves, all making only two people." It's amazing, invigorating and obvious bad faith. In fact, this dictionary was started in 1881 and was completed in 1911. Its author unknown, was a sacred olibrius. At 71, he joined the army of Pancho Villa ....

The fitting tribute to Art Spiegelman

The American cartoonist Art Spiegelman has received January 30 the Grand Prize of the city of Angouleme for lifetime achievement. "Maus," his comic strip, is the only book to chart have won the Pulitzer in the U.S. in 1992.Pour locate this price, it should take a look at his record. They include, among others, the names of Hemingway, Steinbeck, Styron or Philip Roth. "Maus" is a masterpiece to be discovered. For my part, I'm lucky, I have a copy autographed by Art Spiegelman in person ...

The wind of freedom

Like many French, I have followed events with great interest Tunisian. The wind of freedom blowing through this country is beautiful. Difficulties link but the enthusiasm of the people are pleased and hopefully will succeed. This morning on France Inter, the journalist Bernard Guetta delivered a magnificent text:

"Tunis is a party
Nothing is more beautiful, moving, shocking that freedom, not the freedom it enjoys and has even but increasingly aware that we have just recovered after 23 years of dictatorship here. Tunis is a party, incredible, unbelievable, a huge permanent forum of speech found in which each challenges the other - pinch me, is this true? - Tells his story, his hopes, seeking approval and talking, talking, talking endlessly.

Bourguiba Avenue yesterday, the Bastille Republic of the revolution, in the city center, there was a huge crowd in front of the window of a bookstore. People nudged to see better. You could not approach that ask what was going on and a lady explained between anger and joy, "his voice cracking with emotion:" They expose the books banned under Ben Ali, the thief, the murderer, that pig. " The titles were in Arabic on one side, French on the other and all spoke of democracy and reform of Islam and it looked like it the most valuable assets, like water in the desert.

Suddenly a hubbub. The protest comes the day to drive a police roadblock in screams of joy when the word "dignity" repeatedly. The crowd, the middle classes and all generations, walking to the Mohammed V square, turn left and headed for a huge glass building, headquarters of the RCD, the party of deposed president. In passing we send flowers and kisses to the soldiers perched on their carts. Tunisia enjoys his army was not involved in the repression and leads the hunt for militiamen of the former regime thugs who play in the absurd illusion that the disorder could regret Ben Ali. The soldiers smiled. Police officers who were left overflowing idly smoke as firefighters and quêtent fraternization with the demonstrators who ignore superbly and, before the RCD, a negotiation with a colonel agrees perfectly master of himself.

Or, say the spokesmen of the protesters, you do remove the front of the gold letters proclaiming Democratic Constitutional Rally, or we force the gates and do not respond to anything. " The colonel takes his mobile, application instructions, hangs up and says no, it takes patience, steps. The ranks are tightening, the crowd beforehand. The face-to-face lasts nearly four hours and give up the military. Letters of gold fall one after another in a heavy fall greeted with cries of joy and when a hundred bearded start ostensibly prayers of Allah and punctuate Akbar, God is great, nobody around, nobody will even see because freedom is the freedom but they n'intéressent strictly individual.

Tunis is a party, the biggest holiday, but the democratic opposition that its calculations. If the tourist season is lost, if foreign firms are panicking, unemployment is going to explode and within six months a year, poverty will have to regret the stability of dictatorship and opened a boulevard for the Islamists. The economy threatens freedom. Huge clouds may soon overshadow the joy. So no hesitation for your holiday: it Tunisia requires solidarity. "

Tunisia Asia haunts me ... Last picture of 2010

Decidedly, Asia is constantly in my environment. Besides the manga that the family eats for several months, this continent attracts me enormously. Our trips to India, Thailand and Vietnam gave us a lot of serenity. My friend Pascal has just made me discover an artist from South Korea, Youn Sun Nah . It's a small wonder to discover and enjoy without moderation ....

"Barefoot Gen" or force a

is often compared to "Barefoot Gen" by Keiji Hakazawa to "Maus" by Art Spiegelman. These two monumental works happy part of the twentieth century (before and after the Second World War). If to take some distance with the facts, Spiegelman had transformed the characters into animals, it is not the case for the manga "Barefoot Gen". Monumental, you said? Yes. There are 10 volumes of 250 pages. Therefore total 2500 pages. Based on the author's own story, there, bewildered, at the daily life of a small Japanese Hiroshima capita between 1945 and 1953. The real "star" of this colossal BD is the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima August 6, 1945. Throughout these 2500 pages, we witness the survival of this little man, his doubts and hopes. And we discover a piece of history that has been studied too fast in school. Hiroshima, Japan, is so far ... Formidable pacifist plea, "Barefoot Gen" is a hymn to life. But sensitive souls, abstain. I started reading "Barefoot Gen" for nearly two months. I can read a score of pages each night. The moral of this comic amazing returns as a leitmotif in each volume. Gen's father has repeated numerous times: "wheat buds in winter and we walked on over and over again. But it is firmly rooted and grows straight despite freezing temperatures and snowstorms. Be as strong than he. "

World Of Warcraft Tiger Mount

A beautiful testimony

Cuckoo revoilou me! I have a bit much, abandoned my blog lately. IF, the days are only 24 hours. But here I am again, and rested. I want to tell you about last favorite literary-philosophical. You may have recently discovered the TV show "great library" on France 5. Alexander Jollien, Swiss philosopher, was a very special journey of life (he lived for 17 years in an institution for people with physical disabilities). Already author of "In Praise of weakness" (Cerf, 1999), "the man's job" (Seville, 2002) and "self-construction" (Seuil, 2006), Alexander publishes Jollien here an amazing diary. His thinking, oscillating between joy and detachment, is relevant without being heavy. "The man who wrote these lines is the prey of doubt. As he struggles to free his own way, he would like the philosophers want to offer him their protection. Rather qu'empiler quotations from great philosophers, Alexandre recounts his daily Jollien with her lots of frustrations and joys. The result is of great wealth. This book, ever soothing, and reveals an extraordinary life force.

How Long Can Gingerbread Dough Stay In The Fridge

The fascinating world of manga.

Like many others, I had a stereotypical view of Mangas. Aggressive, reserved for teens, wholesale without interest. Thanks to our wonderful library, I changed my mind. The universe of Asian comics is simply amazing. There are many categories, for teens, women, men. Random, I began by reading a manhwa (Korean comic) by Kim Dong Hwa: "bicylette the red". This is the story of a factor. The author, very fine small touches like watercolors, this tells the Daily Worker. It's tender, simple, human, and very touching. In

radius manga, Japanese comics, I fell in love with "a sacred granny" of Yoschihi and Saburo Shimada Ishihawa. This happened in 1958 in Saga, a hundred miles from Hiroshima. It follows the journey of Akihiro Takumaga. 8 year old child, he was entrusted by his mother at his grandmother. Very poor but living in the countryside, this granny must disclose his optimistic view of life despite harsh conditions. This story is strong, affecting morale (without being preachy), and even upsetting. This allows us to do more with payx knowledge that we know so little or so badly: Japan. Knowledge, Anne-Laure, who worked in the field of manga, I prepared a list of the best productions. I can not wait to discover them.

NB: a manhwa reads like a standard work. A manga reads from right to left, so we began the book by ... the end! But you get used very quickly.
